ScheduleH: ScheduleH (2025)

Wisconsin · Wisconsin DOR · Used for tax years 2025

Wisconsin Schedule H is used to claim the 2025 homestead credit. It reports household income, property taxes or rent, and information used to determine eligibility and calculate the credit.

Who files this form

Schedule H is used to claim Wisconsin homestead credit for 2025. The form lists these eligibility limits:

  • You must have been at least 18 on December 31, 2025, and a legal Wisconsin resident from January 1 through December 31, 2025.
  • If you and your spouse were under 62 and neither was disabled, you or your spouse must have had positive earned income in 2025.
  • If someone claimed or will claim you as a dependent on their 2025 federal return, you do not qualify if you were under 62 on December 31, 2025.
  • You do not qualify if you are now living in a nursing home and receiving medical assistance under Title XIX.
  • No credit is allowed if household income on line 12c is $24,680 or more.
  • You do not qualify if, for all 12 months of 2025, you received Wisconsin Works (W2) payments of any amount or county relief payments of $400 or more per month.

What you'll need

Have the following available, as applicable:

  • Your 2025 Wisconsin income tax return for the income reported on line 7.
  • Information about all 2025 income listed on Schedule H, including your spouse’s income if married. The form refers to box 12 of wage statements for deferred compensation contributions.
  • Documentation for all rent and property taxes reported. The form requires you to attach appropriate documentation.
  • Rent certificate(s) or a Shared Living Expenses Schedule for rent amounts.
  • Your property tax bill if completing Schedule 1, which asks for assessed land and improvement values.
  • A schedule listing each item of other taxable income reported on line 8b if you are not filing a 2025 Wisconsin return.

If you use a different method to prorate property taxes instead of Schedule 1’s method, attach your computation of allowable property taxes.

  • Incorrect number formatting: Do not enter commas or cents.

  • Counting income twice: Do not include amounts on line 9 that you already entered on line 7, 8a, or 8b.

  • Entering an unissued PIN: Only enter a Wisconsin Identity Protection PIN if the department sent you one.

Questions people ask

Can I complete Schedule H without filing a Wisconsin income tax return?

The form provides for this situation. If you and your spouse are not filing a 2025 Wisconsin return, enter Wisconsin taxable income on lines 8a and 8b. Attach a schedule listing each income item reported on line 8b.

Must my property taxes already be paid?

No. Line 13 asks homeowners to report net 2025 property taxes on their homestead, whether paid or not.

Does it matter whether heat is included in my rent?

Yes. The form uses 20% of rent when heat is included and 25% when heat is not included. Use the heat information on line 8b of your rent certificate.

What if my nonfarm home was also used for business or rental purposes?

Complete Schedule 2 if your nonfarm homestead was used partly for purposes other than personal use while you lived there in 2025. Only the personal portion of property taxes or rent may be claimed.

What if I received Wisconsin Works or county relief for only part of 2025?

Complete Schedule 3 if, for any month of 2025, you received Wisconsin Works payments of any amount or county relief payments of $400 or more. This schedule reduces the taxes or rent used for the credit. If you received these payments for all 12 months, you do not qualify and should not complete Schedule H.
