Form4466W: Form4466W (2025)
Wisconsin · Wisconsin DOR · Used for tax years 2025
Wisconsin Form 4466W is an application for a quick refund of estimated tax overpayments by a corporation or pass-through entity. It reports estimated payments, prior-year overpayment credits, expected tax liability, and the overpayment requested for refund.
Who files this form
Form 4466W is an application for a quick refund, not a required filing for every entity. A corporation or pass-through entity may apply if its estimated tax overpayment is both:
- At least 10% of its expected tax liability.
- At least $500.
Pass-through entities may apply only for overpayments related to their pass-through withholding tax liability. Estimated payments related to the economic development surcharge are not eligible for a quick refund.
When it's due
For tax year 2025, file Form 4466W after the taxable year ends and before the corporation or pass-through entity files its tax return. The instructions do not give a specific calendar deadline for this application.
What you'll need
Have the following information available to complete the form:
- The entity’s name, address, identifying number, state and year of incorporation or organization, seller’s permit or use tax number, and Wisconsin employer ID number.
- The calendar year or taxable year beginning and ending dates.
- Estimated tax payments for the year and any prior-year overpayment allowed as a credit.
- Gross tax and any surcharge, or total withholding tax, computed from the return to be filed.

The form also has fields for an authorized signer’s signature, title and date, and for the preparer’s signature, address, date and telephone number.
How to file
Complete the form in duplicate and file the original by mail at:
Wisconsin Department of Revenue
PO Box 8908
Madison WI 53708-8908
To calculate the requested overpayment:
- Add estimated payments and the prior-year overpayment credit on lines 1 through 3.
- Enter the tax computed from the return to be filed on line 4. Enter credits, excluding estimated tax credits, on line 5. Line 5 cannot exceed line 4.
- Subtract line 5 from line 4 to find expected liability on line 6.
- Subtract line 6 from line 3 to find the overpayment on line 7.
Check when the tax return will be filed and have an authorized person sign the declaration.
Common mistakes
- Claiming the refund again on the tax return. The amount refunded must not be claimed as estimated tax payments on the entity’s tax return.
- Filing without meeting both minimums. Do not file unless the overpayment is at least 10% of expected liability and at least $500.
- Including estimated tax credits on line 5. These are excluded, and line 5 cannot exceed line 4.
- Submitting an incomplete or incorrect application. The department may disallow an application without further action if it has material omissions or errors that cannot be corrected.
Questions people ask
Can a pass-through entity request a quick refund?
Yes, but only for estimated tax overpayments related to its pass-through withholding tax liability, and only if both eligibility minimums are met.
Can payments for the economic development surcharge be refunded through this application?
No. Estimated payments related to that surcharge are not eligible for a quick refund.
Will the entire overpayment be sent to the entity?
Not necessarily. The Department of Revenue may credit the overpayment against amounts owed to the department or other state agencies and refund the balance.
Can an excessive refund lead to interest charges?
Yes. The instructions provide for regular interest at 12% per year on unpaid tax under the excessive-refund rules and delinquent interest at 18% per year under the stated late-payment rules.
