Schedule VACS is Virginia’s supplemental schedule for contributing a tax refund to Commonwealth Savers (formerly Virginia529) accounts. It lists each contribution’s program type, beneficiary, account information and amount, with the total included on Schedule VAC.
Who files this form
Use 2024 Schedule VACS if you are contributing all or part of your Virginia tax refund to more than five Commonwealth Savers accounts, formerly called Virginia529 accounts. Use additional Schedules VACS if needed.
What you'll need
Have the following information ready:
- Name(s) as shown on your Virginia return and Social Security number.
- For each contribution: program type code, beneficiary’s last name, account number, and contribution amount.
- For CollegeAmerica or ABLEAmerica only: the proper account number and routing number, obtained from your financial advisor.
For Invest529, Prepaid529, and CollegeWealth, use your program account number. For ABLEnow, use your ABLEnow account number.
Common mistakes
- Do not leave out the routing number for CollegeAmerica or ABLEAmerica. It is required for those accounts only. Contact your financial advisor for the proper account and routing numbers.
- Remember to add the contribution amounts on Lines 1 through 5 and enter the total on Schedule VACS, Line 6.
- Include the Schedule VACS amount in the total contribution amount for all Virginia529 accounts reported on Schedule VAC, Line 6.
- Use additional Schedules VACS if necessary.

Which program type code should I enter?
Use 1 for Invest529, 2 for Prepaid529, 3 for CollegeWealth, 4 for CollegeAmerica or ABLEAmerica, and 5 for ABLEnow.
Do all accounts need a routing number?
No. The form requires a routing number only for CollegeAmerica or ABLEAmerica. Contact your financial advisor for the proper account and routing numbers.
Where does the contribution total go?
Add the contribution amounts on Lines 1 through 5 and enter the total on Schedule VACS, Line 6. Include that amount in the total for all Virginia529 accounts on Schedule VAC, Line 6.
What if I need more space for contributions?
Use additional Schedules VACS if necessary.
