Schedule VAC: Virginia Contributions Schedule (2025)

Virginia · Virginia Tax · Used for tax years 2025

The 2025 Virginia Schedule VAC records contributions to Commonwealth Savers accounts and other voluntary contribution organizations. It lists account or organization details, contribution amounts, and totals to enter on your Virginia income tax return.

Who files this form

Use 2025 Schedule VAC if you want to make contributions through your Virginia income tax return:

  • Complete Section I to contribute all or part of your refund to one or more Commonwealth Savers accounts, formerly Virginia529.
  • Complete Section II to contribute to other voluntary contribution organizations listed in the income tax instructions.

Do not submit Schedule VAC if you are filing an amended return.

What you'll need

Have these details ready to complete the schedule:

  • Your name or names as shown on your Virginia return and your Social Security number.
  • The overpayment calculated on your return and any amount credited to next year's estimated tax.
  • For each Commonwealth Savers contribution: the program type code, beneficiary's last name, account number and contribution amount.
  • For CollegeAmerica or ABLEAmerica: the proper account and routing numbers, obtained from your financial advisor.
  • For other voluntary contributions: the qualifying organization codes from the income tax instructions and your contribution amounts.

Use supplemental Schedule VACS if contributing to more than five Commonwealth Savers accounts.

How to file

The form gives these completion steps, but does not provide a mailing address or e-file directions.

  1. Enter your name or names as shown on your Virginia return and your Social Security number on the applicable pages.
  2. For Commonwealth Savers contributions, complete Section I. In Part A, enter your overpayment minus any amount credited to next year's estimated tax. Enter each account's details and contribution in Part B.
  3. Enter the total Commonwealth Savers contribution on Section I, Line 6, and Line 30 of Form 760, Form 760PY or Form 763. If contributing to more than five accounts, use Schedule VACS and fill in the oval.
  4. For other voluntary contributions, complete Section II. In Part A, subtract both next year's estimated tax credit and your Section I contributions from your overpayment. Use the income tax instructions for qualifying organizations and codes.
  5. Enter refund-only contributions on Lines 2 through 7. Lines 8 through 13 are for contributions from your refund or tax payment; the form directs you to the income tax instructions for details.
  6. Add the contributions on Lines 2 through 13. Enter the total on Section II, Line 14, and Line 31 of Form 760, Form 760PY or Form 763.

Common mistakes

  • Submitting the schedule with an amended return. The form says not to do this.
  • Contributing more than the available balance. Section I contributions cannot exceed the overpayment after subtracting next year's estimated tax credit. Section II, Lines 2 through 7, cannot exceed the balance remaining after also subtracting Section I contributions.
  • Using the wrong account details. Use the program account number for Invest529, Prepaid529 and CollegeWealth, and the ABLEnow account number for ABLEnow. Contact your financial advisor for the proper account and routing numbers for CollegeAmerica or ABLEAmerica.
  • Leaving out Schedule VACS when contributing to more than five accounts. Use the supplemental schedule and fill in the oval on Section I, Line 6.
