Questions people ask

How is the credit for an easement donation calculated?

The credit equals the easement's fair market value. Subtract the property's fair market value after the easement from its fair market value before the easement.

How much is the credit for a fee-simple donation?

The state Income Tax credit equals the value of the fee donated.

Can the donation amount be spread over several years?

Yes. For either type of donation, the form says the donor may take the deduction in any one year within the five-year period following the donation, or in proportionate amounts during that five-year period.

Does a permanent easement affect Property Taxes?

Yes. The form states that land subject to a permanent easement becomes exempt from all Property Taxes.
