PA-41 X: 2025 Schedule PA-41 X - Amended PA Fiduciary Income Tax Schedule (PA-41 X) (2025)

Pennsylvania · Pennsylvania DOR · Used for tax years 2025

Schedule PA-41 X is Pennsylvania’s amended fiduciary income tax schedule for 2025. It reports changes to an estate’s or trust’s income, deductions, withholdings, payments, and credits, explains those changes, and calculates the refund or payment due. It must be filed with a PA-41

Who files this form

Use the 2025 Schedule PA-41 X when amending an estate’s or trust’s previously filed 2025 PA-41 to report changes in income, distribution deductions, withholdings, estimated payments, or tax credits. Changes may increase or decrease the amounts previously reported.

Schedule PA-41 X must be filed with a PA-41 marked as an amended return. It cannot be filed by itself.

What you'll need

  • The original or most recently amended PA-41, for the amounts needed to complete Column A.
  • A completed amended PA-41 to submit with Schedule PA-41 X.
  • Supporting schedules and documentation for the changes. Depending on what changed, these may include amended Schedules RK-1, NRK-1, A, B, C, F, D, E, J, DD, N, OC, or G-L.
  • Records of earlier overpayments and payments, including penalties and interest paid, to complete Section II.
  • Documentation supporting any residency-status change.
  • A statement showing the breakdown and calculations for adjusted penalties and interest, if applicable.

Include a supplemental statement if you need more space to explain changes. Submit only schedules and statements that are amended, rather than copies already included with earlier returns. If you are adding partnership income omitted from the original return, include the partnership’s Schedule RK-1 and the amended schedules or statements reporting that income.

How to file

  1. Enter the estate’s or trust’s name as shown on the original PA-41 and its federal EIN. If an estate has not received an EIN, enter the decedent’s SSN. If a trust has not received an EIN, enter “APPLIEDFR.”
  2. Complete Section I with the previously reported amounts in Column A, net changes in Column B, and corrected amounts in Column C. Enter the corrected amounts on the corresponding lines of the amended PA-41.
  3. Use the Section II worksheet to calculate the refund or payment due.
  4. In Section III, give the line number and explanation for each change. Explain any filing-status or residency-status change and attach supporting documentation as required.
  5. Write “Amended” at the top center of each amended schedule included with the return.
  6. Submit Schedule PA-41 X with the PA-41 marked as amended. The amended return is not considered filed until the department receives both documents.

For a payment due, follow the Payment Options in the PA-41 instructions. For an overpayment, use Lines 24 through 25 of the amended PA-41 to tell the department how to disburse it.

The supplied text does not specify a mailing address or an e-file method.

Common mistakes

  • Filing the schedule alone. It must accompany a PA-41 marked as amended.
  • Using the wrong year’s schedule. This version can only be used for tax year 2025.
  • Entering earlier payments or refunds on the amended PA-41. Use the Section II worksheet instead. Do not complete Lines 22 and 23 of the amended PA-41. Including previously paid or refunded amounts can delay processing and lead to correspondence.
  • Attaching copies of schedules or statements already filed. Include only the schedules and statements being amended, with the required supporting documentation.
  • Requesting a use-tax refund through an amended PA-41. A Petition for Refund, REV-65, is required to obtain a refund of use tax.
  • Treating an amended return as a substitute for a refund petition. If you are close to the end of the time allowed to file a refund petition, file the petition with the department’s Board of Appeals instead. Filing an amended return does not extend that time limit.

Questions people ask

Can I use this schedule to reduce previously reported income or tax?

Yes. Schedule PA-41 X can report changes that reduce income and tax liability, as well as additional income discovered after filing.

What do Columns A, B, and C mean?

Column A shows the original or most recently amended amounts. Column B shows the net increase or decrease. Column C shows the corrected amounts after applying those changes.

How do I know whether I owe money or have an overpayment?

Complete the Section II worksheet. A positive amount on Line I is the amount owed with the amended return. A negative amount is an overpayment. Do not enter that result on Line 22 or Line 23 of the amended PA-41.

What if the estate’s or trust’s residency status changed?

Explain the change in Section III and include documentation supporting the residency-status change.
