PA-41 Schedule DD: 2024 PA-41 Schedule DD - Distribution Deductions (PA-41 DD) (2024)

Pennsylvania · Pennsylvania DOR · Used for tax years 2024

PA-41 Schedule DD reports an estate’s or trust’s income distributed or available for distribution to beneficiaries. It calculates distribution deductions, including charitable distribution deductions, and the total deduction to enter on Line 8 of the PA-41.

Who files this form

Estates and trusts use PA-41 Schedule DD to report income distributed or distributable to beneficiaries.

If the estate or trust has no distributions or is not distributing its income, it is not required to complete Schedule DD.

Do not complete this schedule for a taxable bankruptcy estate. A taxable bankruptcy estate cannot distribute income to beneficiaries.

What you'll need

Have these forms and details available to complete the schedule:

  • PA-41, Fiduciary Income Tax Return: Use the estate or trust's name, identifying number, and income information. An estate with a FEIN should not use the decedent's Social Security number.
  • The governing instrument: You need its terms about required distributions, retained income, and amounts set aside for charity.
  • Income and distribution details: These include taxable income, qualifying nontaxable receipts, cash distributions, and the market value of property distributed during the tax year.
  • Beneficiary information: Identify each beneficiary's residency and whether the beneficiary is an individual or an entity.
  • PA-41 Schedule N, Part 1, when applicable: Use this to calculate Pennsylvania-source taxable income when a separate calculation is required for Column B.

Common mistakes

  • Completing the schedule for a taxable bankruptcy estate. The instructions specifically say not to do this.
  • Entering trust distribution amounts for an estate on Lines 8a through 10a. If filing for an estate, enter zero on those lines and proceed to Line 11a.
  • Including excluded cash payments on Line 11a. Do not include amounts properly paid from corpus as gifts or bequests of specific sums, or amounts required to be distributed in a prior tax year but not distributed then.
  • Including specific property gifts on Line 12a. Do not include property distributed in-kind as a gift or bequest of specific property.
  • Claiming a charitable deduction for amounts that may benefit a taxable beneficiary. The charitable deduction warning says amounts set aside cannot be used to benefit a taxable beneficiary, such as to make up a guaranteed payment.

Only Column A is required if the estate or trust is a Pennsylvania resident and all beneficiaries are individuals who are Pennsylvania residents.

It is also required for a resident estate or trust with nonresident beneficiaries, or with estate, trust, partnership, limited liability company, or PA S corporation beneficiaries.
