Questions people ask
Can a full-year nonresident claim this credit?
No. Full-year nonresidents are not entitled to the credit and should not use IT RC.
Does tax paid to the District of Columbia count?
The form covers individual income tax imposed by another state or the District of Columbia while you were an Ohio resident. The income must also be included in your Ohio adjusted gross income.
How is the resident credit calculated?
Add the Column A income amounts on line 1 and the Column B tax amounts on line 2. Divide line 1 by your Ohio adjusted gross income on line 3, carrying the result to four digits without rounding and limiting it to 1. Multiply that result by Ohio Schedule of Credits, line 36 minus line 37, using zero if the subtraction is negative. Your credit is the lesser of that product or line 2.
Where do I report the credit?
Enter the credit on IT RC, line 7, and Ohio Schedule of Credits, line 38. Include a copy of IT RC when filing your Ohio IT 1040.
