Who files this form

The 2024 Ohio IT NRC is for individuals who were full-year nonresidents or part-year residents of Ohio during tax year 2024.

Full-year Ohio residents generally should not complete this form. However, a full-year Ohio resident filing jointly with a nonresident or part-year resident spouse should include all of their income in Column B.

Part-year residents should enter their dates of Ohio residency. Complete Section I, Part A for both full-year nonresidents and part-year residents. Part B is only for part-year residents.

What you'll need

The form uses information from these returns and schedules, as applicable:

  • Your federal return, including income and deductions included in federal adjusted gross income.
  • Ohio IT 1040, line 3, for Ohio adjusted gross income.
  • Ohio Schedule of Credits, line 36, to calculate the credit.
  • Ohio Schedule of Adjustments, for additions, deductions, and depreciation adjustments.
  • Ohio Schedule of Business Income, line 13, for the business income deduction.
  • Federal Schedules B, C, D, E, and F, for applicable business income or loss.

For business reporting, the form also asks for business identification, ownership information, and property, payroll, and sales amounts within Ohio and everywhere.

Certain taxpayers may attach an Ohio IT K-1 instead of completing Section III for that entity. Section III, line 17 requires detailed computations to be enclosed for R.C. 5747.212 income apportioned to Ohio.

Common mistakes

  • Use black ink and whole dollars only.
  • Do not include payments from a pass-through entity on Section I, line 1 if you have a direct or indirect ownership interest of 20% or more in that entity.
  • In Section II, Column A is your share of business income reported for federal income tax purposes. It is not the total of Columns B and C.
  • List businesses from highest to lowest Ohio apportioned income, including businesses with no Ohio apportionment.
  • If Section II, line 22, Column C is zero or less, stop there and enter that amount on Section I, line 5. Do not continue to lines 23 and 24.
  • Carry the Section I, line 19 calculation to four digits without rounding. If the result is greater than 1, enter 1.

Questions people ask

What goes in Columns A and B of Section I?

For each line, Column A shows the total income included on your federal return. Column B shows income earned or received in Ohio from the corresponding source.

Do I need a separate Section III for every business?

Complete a separate Section III for each business with Ohio apportionment. It is not required for businesses with no Ohio apportionment. If you are allowed to use an Ohio IT K-1 for an entity, do not complete Section III for that entity. Attach the IT K-1, check the box in Section II, and report its amounts in Columns B and C.

What if my nonresident portion of Ohio adjusted gross income is negative?

Section I, line 18 tells you to subtract line 17 from line 16. If the result is negative, enter zero.

Where do I enter the calculated credit?

Multiply Section I, line 19 by Ohio Schedule of Credits, line 36. Enter the result on IT NRC, line 20 and Ohio Schedule of Credits, line 37.
