ND-1V: Form ND-1V - Electronic Return Payment Voucher (2024)
North Dakota · ND Tax Commissioner · Used for tax years 2024
Form ND-1V is a payment voucher sent with a check or money order to pay a balance due on an electronically filed 2024 North Dakota individual income tax return. It identifies the taxpayer and the payment amount.
Who files this form
Use Form ND-1V if you are paying a balance due on an electronically filed North Dakota individual income tax return by check or money order.
Do not use this voucher if you pay electronically. For an extension payment, use Form ND-1EXT instead.
When it's due
For tax year 2024, payment must be made on or before April 15, 2025, to avoid late payment penalty or interest.
This deadline applies even if you have not received acknowledgement that your electronic North Dakota return was accepted.
What you'll need
To pay by mail, you need:
- A completed 2024 Form ND-1V with your name, mailing address, Social Security number, and payment amount. The voucher also has fields for your spouse’s name and Social Security number.
- A check or money order payable to ND State Tax Commissioner. Write the last four digits of your Social Security number and “2024 ND-1V” on it.
A check must be drawn on a U.S. or Canadian bank, be in U.S. dollars, and use a standard 9-digit routing number.

Common mistakes
- Using ND-1V for an extension payment. Use Form ND-1EXT instead.
- Using the voucher when paying electronically. The form says not to use it for electronic payments.
- Waiting for return acceptance before paying. The payment deadline applies even if you have not received acknowledgement that your electronic return was accepted.
- Forgetting the check notation. Write the last four digits of your Social Security number and “2024 ND-1V” on your check or money order.
- Sending a check that does not meet the requirements. Checks must be drawn on a U.S. or Canadian bank, in U.S. dollars, with a standard 9-digit routing number.
