D-403: Partnership Income Tax Return (2025)

North Carolina · North Carolina DOR · Used for tax years 2025

Form D-403 is North Carolina’s 2025 Partnership Income Tax Return. It reports partnership income or loss, adjustments, payments, and any tax due for nonresident partners and Taxed Partnerships.

What you'll need

Have the following information and supporting forms ready:

  • The partnership’s legal name, address and federal employer identification number. An LLC must also enter its North Carolina Secretary of State ID.
  • Each partner’s name, address, identifying number, ownership share percentage, partner type and North Carolina residency status.
  • Income figures for Part 1, Line 1, from Part 6, Line 12, or federal Form 1065, Schedule K, Lines 1–11.
  • Form NC-PE, if the partnership has North Carolina additions or deductions to income. Complete and attach both pages.
  • Form D-403TC figures, if claiming the tax credits referenced in Part 4.
  • A supporting schedule if using a special apportionment formula.
  • Additional partner schedules if there are more than two partners.

Attach schedules for items marked “Attach schedule,” such as cost of goods sold, net farm profit or loss, and other deductions. For an amended return, complete the explanation of changes and attach additional sheets if needed.

How to file

Save the PDF to your computer and complete it using the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. Use capital letters for the partnership’s name and address.

Complete the applicable parts and circles. All partnerships complete Part 4, Sections A and B, for each partner. Complete Part 1, Lines 11–13, if the partnership has nonresident partners or is a Taxed Partnership; otherwise, skip to Line 14.

Have the managing partner sign and date the return. The form also provides a signature and date area for a paid preparer other than the managing partner.

Mail the original return and applicable attachments to:

North Carolina Department of Revenue

P.O. Box 25000

Raleigh, North Carolina 27640-0640

You can pay online at ncdor.gov. The form says payments must be in U.S. currency from a domestic bank.

Common mistakes

  • Do not include the web fill-in instruction page with the return.
  • Do not handwrite information or use commas in amounts. Use a minus sign, not brackets, for negative numbers.
  • Use the form’s print icon to ensure all required fields are completed. Do not print on both sides. Set page scaling to “none” and uncheck Auto-Rotate and Center.
  • Do not mix form types or submit photocopies. Submit original returns only.
  • Calculate apportionment factors to four decimal places.
  • If Form NC-PE is required, attach both pages. The Department warns that it may be unable to process the return without them.
  • Provide every partner with an NC K-1 for Form D-403 and any other information needed to prepare the appropriate North Carolina tax return.
  • Enter tax credits on Part 4, Line 8, only if the partner can claim them. Use Line 23 only for credits the Taxed Partnership can claim.
