New York · NY DTF · Used for tax years 2024

Form IT-227 is an attachment to New York Form IT-201 or IT-203 that lists your voluntary contributions to the funds shown on the form. It reports each contribution and the total, which reduces your refund or increases your tax payment.

Who files this form

Complete Form IT-227 if you want to make voluntary contributions to any of the funds listed in Part 1. Submit it with your New York State income tax return:

  • Form IT-201, Resident Income Tax Return; or
  • Form IT-203, Nonresident and Part-Year Resident Income Tax Return.

What you'll need

  • Your Form IT-201 or IT-203. Enter your name or names as shown on that return and your Social Security number on Form IT-227.
  • The whole-dollar amounts you want to contribute to the funds you choose.
  • If filing an amended return, a copy of the original Form IT-227 submitted with your original return.

How to file

  1. Enter your name or names and Social Security number.
  2. In Part 1, lines 1 through 36, enter each contribution in whole dollars. Zeros for cents are already printed.

  4. Enter that same total on Form IT-201, line 60, or Form IT-203, line 57.

Common mistakes

  • Entering cents: Contributions must be in whole dollars.
  • Expecting to change a contribution later: You cannot change contribution amounts after filing, even if the Tax Department later adjusts your return.
  • Using the wrong Olympic Fund amount: Each individual may contribute only $2. On a joint return, enter $4 if both spouses contribute or $2 if only one contributes.
  • Overlooking Campaign Finance Fund restrictions: Only New York State residents and part-year residents may contribute. Each individual may contribute only $40. On a joint return, enter $80 if both spouses contribute or $40 if only one contributes.
  • Leaving out the original form when amending: An amended return must include a copy of the original Form IT-227 submitted with the original return.
