Common mistakes
- Claiming a new credit: The credit has expired. Only carryforward amounts from previous years may be claimed.
- Requesting a refund of unused credit: Unused credit cannot be refunded, but it may be carried forward indefinitely.
- Leaving the tax period blank: All filers must enter the beginning and ending dates.
- Applying credits in the wrong order: The printed order is household credit, credits that cannot be carried over or refunded, credits with a limited carryover period, credits with an unlimited carryover period, then refundable credits.
