Questions people ask
Can a corporate partner claim a share of the credit?
Yes. Report partnership information in Schedule C. Add the allocated credit amounts on line 13 and enter that total on line 2.
What if I have more than one certificate of tax credit?
Complete a separate CT-635 for each certificate. Line 1a asks for the line 1 totals from all additional Forms CT-635.
How much credit can a C corporation use this year?
Schedule B, line 9, uses the lesser of the total credit on line 3 or the credit limitation on line 8. Enter that amount on your franchise tax return as well.
Can unused credit be refunded or applied to next year’s tax?
Schedule B provides for both options. Line 10 calculates the unused credit, line 11 reports the amount to be refunded, and line 12 reports the remaining amount to apply as an overpayment to next year’s tax. New York S corporations do not complete Schedule B.
