S-CORP-EXT: 07. 2024 S-Corp-EXT Extension Payment Voucher (2024)

New Mexico · New Mexico TRD · Used for tax years 2024

Form S-CORP-EXT is New Mexico's extension payment voucher for 2024 Sub-Chapter S corporate income and franchise tax. It identifies the corporation and the amount paid toward its tax liability.

Who files this form

Use the 2024 S-CORP-EXT voucher if you have obtained a federal automatic extension or a New Mexico extension, expect to owe tax on your 2024 S-Corp return, and want to make an extension payment to avoid interest accruing on the tax due.

This is not the voucher for every S-Corp payment:

  • Use S-Corp-PV for a payment toward a 2024 return that has already been filed or is being filed with the payment.
  • Use S-Corp-ES for an estimated payment toward the current year's tax liability.

What you'll need

For a mailed extension payment, have:

  • The payment voucher, with the corporation's name, mailing address, federal employer identification number (FEIN), and amount enclosed.
  • A check or money order payable to New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department.
  • Your FEIN, “S-Corp-EXT,” and the correct tax year ending date to write on your check.

An extension payment requires a federal automatic extension or a New Mexico extension. To request a New Mexico extension, submit Form RPD-41096, Application for Extension of Time to File. You may submit it with your extension payment.

If you obtained a federal automatic extension by filing Form 7004 for tax year 2024, you do not need RPD-41096 unless you need an extension beyond the period allowed by the federal extension.

How to file

Pay by mail

Complete the voucher, cut it off on the dotted line, and include your check or money order payable to New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department. Mail the payment and voucher to:

New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department

P.O. Box 25127

Santa Fe, NM 87504-5127

Pay online

Go to Taxpayer Access Point (TAP). Under PAYMENTS, choose Make a Payment, then Business. Select Corporate Income Tax in the Account Type drop-down box.

You can pay by electronic check at no charge or by credit card with a convenience fee. An electronic check authorizes the Department to debit your checking account for the amount and on the date you specify.

The payment voucher does not replace an extension request. To apply for a New Mexico extension, submit Form RPD-41096.

Common mistakes

  • Using the wrong voucher or tax year. Check that S-Corp-EXT is the right form for your payment and that it is for the correct tax year.
  • Leaving information off the check. Write your FEIN, “S-Corp-EXT,” and the correct tax year ending date on it. Sign and include the check.
  • Mailing a payment without the voucher. Include both and use the address printed on the voucher.
  • Missing the extension request. Attach RPD-41096 or otherwise submit a timely New Mexico extension request when required. A federal automatic extension generally removes this requirement unless you need more time than it allows.
  • Using a photocopy or resized voucher. Submit a high-quality printed original, set page scaling to None, and cut only on the dotted line.
  • Writing near a scanline. If the voucher has a long row of numbers in its bottom 1½ inches, do not write in the area around it.

Questions people ask

Does New Mexico accept a federal automatic extension?

Yes. If you obtain a federal automatic extension by filing Form 7004 for tax year 2024, New Mexico allows the same extension period to file your New Mexico return. You do not need RPD-41096 unless you need time beyond that period.

Does an extension stop interest from accruing?

No. Interest accrues even with an extension and is assessed daily on the tax due. An extension payment toward the tax liability avoids interest accruing on that amount. The penalty for failure to file and pay is waived through the extension period if you file the return and pay the tax shown by the extended due date.

Is there a fee to pay online?

Electronic check payments through TAP are free. Credit card payments have a convenience fee calculated on the transaction amount.

Can my mailed check be processed electronically?

Yes. Providing a check authorizes the Department to use its information for a one-time electronic funds transfer. Funds may be withdrawn as soon as the same day you make your payment.
