PIT-ES: 16. 2024 PIT-ES Estimated Payment Voucher (Revision)
New Mexico · New Mexico TRD · Used for tax years 2024
Form PIT-ES is New Mexico’s Personal Income Estimated Tax Payment Voucher. It identifies the taxpayer, payment amount, tax year, and quarter to which the estimated payment should be applied.
Who files this form
Use PIT-ES if you want to make a quarterly estimated personal income tax payment to New Mexico. This edition is for tax year 2024.
The form does not state who is required to make estimated payments. For a payment with your final PIT-1 return, use PIT-PV instead. For an extension payment, use PIT-EXT.
When it's due
For tax year 2024, the voucher prints these quarter payment dates:
- 1st quarter: April 15
- 2nd quarter: June 15
- 3rd quarter: September 15
- 4th quarter: January 15
The printed quarter labels do not specify calendar years for these dates.
What you'll need
To mail a payment, prepare:
- A high-quality printed, original PIT-ES voucher, not a photocopy.
- Your name, address, and Social Security number, plus your spouse’s name and Social Security number if applicable.
- The tax year, quarter, and payment amount.
- A signed check or money order payable to New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department.
- Your own envelope.
Write your Social Security number(s), “PIT-ES,” and the correct tax year on your check or money order.
How to file
Pay by mail
Complete the voucher, indicate the tax year and quarter, and cut it out on the dotted line only. Include your signed check or money order with the voucher in your own envelope.
Mail both to:
New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department
P.O. Box 8390
Santa Fe, NM 87504-8390
Pay online
Go to Taxpayer Access Point (TAP). Under GENERAL TASKS, select Make a Payment, then Individual.
You can pay by electronic check at no charge. This authorizes the Department to debit your checking account for the amount and on the date you specify. Credit card payments are also available, but a convenience fee applies.
Common mistakes
- Using the wrong voucher. Use PIT-ES for quarterly estimated payments, PIT-PV for a payment with the final PIT-1 return, and PIT-EXT for an extension payment.
- Entering the wrong tax year or quarter.
- Leaving names or addresses incomplete, or making names, addresses, or Social Security numbers hard to read.
- Forgetting to write Social Security number(s), “PIT-ES,” and the tax year on the check or money order.
- Forgetting to sign or enclose the payment. Always include payment with the mailed voucher.
- Using a photocopy or resizing the voucher. Submit a high-quality printed original, set printer page scaling to None, and cut only on the dotted line.
- Writing around a scanline, if one appears within the bottom 1½ inches of the voucher.
