Who files this form
The 2025 Schedule PIT-D is for taxpayers who choose to contribute some or all of their New Mexico tax refund to the listed voluntary contribution funds.
Total contributions cannot exceed the overpayment shown on Form PIT-1, line 39.
What you'll need
Have your 2025 Form PIT-1 available. You will need the overpayment amount from line 39.
Schedule PIT-D also asks for:
- Your name, including first, middle, and last name.
- Your primary Social Security number.
- The amounts you want to contribute to your chosen funds.
- Your party choice number if you choose a political party contribution, and your spouse’s choice number if applicable on a jointly filed return.
Common mistakes
- Contributing more than your refund: Total contributions on line 18 cannot exceed line 1, which comes from Form PIT-1, line 39. If contributions exceed the refund due, no contributions will be made or deducted from your refund.
- Expecting a contribution back: No part of your contribution is refundable if you change your mind or amend your return.
- Mailing a direct donation to the tax department: If you are not due a refund, do not mail contributions to the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department. The form directs you to send them to the addresses in the Schedule PIT-D instructions, which are not provided here.
- Entering an incorrect political party contribution: Line 11 allows only $2 or $4; otherwise, leave it blank. A spouse’s contribution is allowed only on a jointly filed return.
- Forgetting to transfer the total: Add lines 2 through 17 and enter the total on both Schedule PIT-D, line 18, and Form PIT-1, line 40.
