PIT-D: 14. 2024 PIT-D Voluntary contributions Schedule (2024)

New Mexico · New Mexico TRD · Used for tax years 2024

The 2024 New Mexico PIT-D is a schedule for contributing part or all of your tax refund to New Mexico’s voluntary contribution funds. It records your overpayment, selected contributions, and the total to enter on Form PIT-1, line 40.

Who files this form

The 2024 Schedule PIT-D is for people who choose to contribute some or all of their New Mexico tax refund to the listed voluntary contribution funds. It is not a required contribution.

Your total contributions cannot exceed the overpayment shown on Form PIT-1, line 39.

What you'll need

Have your 2024 Form PIT-1 available. You will need the overpayment amount from line 39 to complete Schedule PIT-D.

The schedule also asks for your name and primary Social Security number.

How to file

  • Enter your name and primary Social Security number.
  • Copy the overpayment from Form PIT-1, line 39, to Schedule PIT-D, line 1.
  • Enter your chosen contributions on the applicable lines 2 through 17.
  • Add lines 2 through 17 and enter the total on line 18 and on Form PIT-1, line 40. The total cannot exceed line 1.

The Department will deduct your contributions from your refund and transfer them to the appropriate funds.

The provided form does not give a mailing address or e-filing directions. If you are not due a refund, do not mail contributions to the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department. The form says to send them directly to the addresses in the Schedule PIT-D instructions, which are not included here.

Common mistakes

  • Contributing more than your refund: If total contributions exceed the refund due, no contributions will be made or deducted from your refund.
  • Expecting to reverse a contribution: No part of your contribution is refundable if you change your mind or amend your return.
  • Sending a direct contribution to the Department when no refund is due: Instead, use the fund addresses listed in the Schedule PIT-D instructions.
  • Entering an incorrect political party contribution: Line 11 allows only $2 or $4. Otherwise, leave it blank. A spouse’s contribution is allowed only on a jointly filed return.
