  • Your New Mexico taxable income from line 17.
  • Your filing status to select the correct column.

How to file

You can file your Personal Income Tax return for free on the New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department website at https://tap.state.nm.us.

Common mistakes

  • If your filing status is surviving spouse, use the Married Filing Jointly column. The table specifically reminds surviving spouses to use this column.

Questions people ask

How do I find my tax in the 2024 table?

Find the income row for your taxable income on Form PIT-1, line 17. The row headings are “More Than” and “But Not Over.” Then find your filing-status column. The amount where the row and column meet is your tax.

Where do I enter the tax amount?

Enter the tax amount on line 18 of Form PIT-1.

What does the table’s example show?

The example uses a married couple filing jointly with New Mexico taxable income of $25,325. They use the row for income more than $25,300 but not over $25,400 and the Married Filing Jointly column. Their tax is $834, which they enter on Form PIT-1, line 18.

What if my taxable income is over $100,000?

If Form PIT-1, line 17, is over $100,000, use the computation table on page T-7. Select the row for your filing status and income range, then use the base tax, percentage, and excess-income amount shown in that row.
