Common mistakes
- Skipping the instructions. The form says to read the instructions before completing the schedule.
- Filing Schedule N for a New Jersey-incorporated corporation. The form specifically says these corporations must not file it.
- Leaving the Corporation Business Tax return incomplete. Corporations using Schedule N must complete that return in full.
- Claiming only the minimum tax despite a “Yes” answer. The instructions state that any “Yes” answer requires the corporation to apportion net income to New Jersey, determine the tax on that income, and pay that tax or the minimum tax, whichever is greater.
