Who files this form

Use Form GIT-327 to claim an unused New Jersey Film and Digital Media Tax Credit and/or a credit carryforward against New Jersey Gross Income Tax. The 2025 form is for tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2025.

To qualify, you must answer Yes to both questions in Part I:

  • Have you been approved by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority to receive the credit?
  • Have you received a tax credit or credit transfer certificate issued by the New Jersey Division of Taxation?

Taxpayers who purchased the credit through the Economic Development Authority tax benefit transfer program may also use this form, subject to the applicable transfer rules and limits.

What you'll need

Submit these documents together:

  • A completed Form GIT-327.
  • A cover letter requesting the credit, including your name, daytime phone number, and current mailing address.
  • A copy of your New Jersey Income Tax return.
  • A copy of your tax credit or credit transfer certificate.

You will also need the amount of any credit carried forward from the prior year and the names and amounts of other current-year tax credits not shown on your return. If needed, attach a separate sheet listing additional credits.

How to file

  1. File your New Jersey Income Tax return first. You cannot claim this credit on Form NJ-1040, NJ-1040NR, or NJ-1041.
  2. Complete Part I of Form GIT-327. Copy the certificate number, individual or entity name, and FID number or Social Security number exactly as shown on your certificate. Check the box confirming that a copy of the certificate is included.
  3. Complete Part II to calculate your allowable credit and carryforward. Line 12 is the smaller of your total available credit on line 6 or the amount on line 11. Subtract line 12 from line 6 to calculate the carryforward on line 13.

Common mistakes

  • Trying to claim the credit on your income tax return. File the return first, then submit Form GIT-327 with the required documents.
  • Claiming the credit when either qualification answer is No. Both questions 1 and 2 must be answered Yes to qualify.
  • Putting prior-year carryforwards on line 4. Report them on line 5 instead. If the entire credit claimed for the current year is carried forward, enter zero on line 4.
  • Using the credit to reduce tax liability below zero. The credit is limited. If line 7 minus line 10 is zero or less, enter zero on line 11.
