New Jersey · NJ Division of Taxation · Used for tax years 2024
Form CBT-100 is the New Jersey Corporation Business Tax Return for tax years ending on or after July 31, 2024, through June 30, 2025. It reports a corporation’s tax base, tax liability, credits, payments, and balance due or overpayment. These forms are for reference only; CBT-100
What you'll need
Include copies of your federal return(s), forms, and schedules with your New Jersey return.
Depending on the items you report, you may also need:
- Copies of all NJK-1s for payments made by partnerships on your corporation’s behalf.
- Federal Schedule D for capital gains and federal Form 4797 for gains or losses reported from that form.
- Federal Form 4562 and the Federal Depreciation Worksheet for Schedule S.
- Federal Form 7205 for the energy efficient commercial buildings deduction.
- Supporting schedules for other income, other deductions, and other entries that request them.
- Additional statements, called riders, and any supporting documents requested by the Annual General Questionnaire.
A corporation reporting as a regulated investment company must submit its printed annual report to stockholders and all other stockholder reports issued during the period covered by the return.
How to file
File electronically. Form CBT-100 and all related forms and schedules must be filed electronically.
The printed forms are for reference only. Do not mail them to the New Jersey Division of Taxation. The form directs taxpayers to the Division’s website for more information.
The return includes a signature and verification section for a duly authorized corporate officer, along with information and signature fields for the person preparing the return.
Common mistakes
- Mailing the reference forms. The form expressly says not to mail them. Electronic filing is required.
- Using figures that do not match the required records. Schedule A, Part I must match the applicable federal return or federal pro forma. Schedule B must match the corporation’s year-end books, or you must explain and reconcile differences in a rider. Consolidated information is not permitted on single returns.
- Skipping Schedule J because of the income amount. All taxpayers must complete it, regardless of the entire net income reported on Schedule A, Part II, line 17.
- Entering the allocation factor as a percentage. Schedule J requires a fraction carried to six decimal places, not a percent.
- Reporting as a regulated investment company without meeting the stated conditions. The form says the required federal authority must have been obtained before the return period began and continued throughout that period. A taxpayer that has not satisfied IRC § 852(a) cannot file as a regulated investment company.
