PTCX: Amended Property Tax Incentive Act Credit Computation (2024)
Nebraska · Nebraska DOR · Used for tax years 2024
Nebraska Form PTCX lets individuals claim a community college property tax credit omitted from their original 2024 Nebraska income tax return. It reports qualified community college property taxes paid in 2024 by parcel and property tax year and computes the credit.
Who files this form
Use 2024 Form PTCX if you are an individual who already filed an original 2024 Nebraska income tax return, Form 1040N, but did not claim the community college property tax credit. You must file Form PTCX to claim that omitted credit.
If you have not filed a 2024 Form 1040N, you cannot use this form. You must file an original return to claim the credit.
When it's due
For tax year 2024, file Form PTCX within three years from the date you filed your original 2024 Form 1040N.
What you'll need
Have the following information ready:
- Your Social Security number, name and current mailing address, plus your spouse’s information if filing jointly.
- For each parcel: the property tax year, Nebraska county number, parcel ID and qualified community college property taxes paid in calendar year 2024.
- Information from Nebraska’s Property Tax Look-Up Tool. The Department of Revenue strongly recommends using it.
- If using your own records to determine qualified taxes paid, records such as the Real Estate Tax Statement issued by the county treasurer.
If Part B does not have enough rows, attach a schedule in the same format as Part B.
How to file
- Type or print your identifying information and current mailing address. Check the address-change box if this differs from your most recent filing. Any resulting overpayment will be refunded to that address.
- Complete Part B first. Use a separate entry for each parcel and each property tax year for which you paid qualified community college property taxes in 2024.
- Enter amounts as whole dollars. Round 50–99 cents up to the next dollar and amounts below 50 cents down.
- Add the eligible amounts in Part B and enter the total on line 2a. Copy that amount to line 1 in Part A.
- Sign and date the form. If filing jointly, both spouses must sign.
Mail the completed 2024 Form PTCX to:

Common mistakes
- Using a license-plate county number. Use the county number provided by the Look-Up Tool or County Parcel ID Search, not the number used on license plates.
- Leaving out Lancaster County parcel ID dashes. Lancaster County parcel IDs must include the dashes.
- Combining parcels or property tax years. Make a separate entry for each parcel and each property tax year paid in 2024.
- Entering total property taxes instead of qualified community college taxes. Qualified amounts exclude taxes for bonded indebtedness, voter-approved levy overrides and credits applied to property taxes. The Look-Up Tool accounts for these exclusions.
- Including taxes delinquent for five years or more when paid. These cannot be included in the credit calculation for payments made in 2024.
- Missing a joint filer’s signature. Both spouses must sign a joint filing.
Questions people ask
Can I use this form to claim a school district property tax credit?
No. For tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2024, Form PTCX is used only to claim a credit for community college property taxes paid.
Which year’s payments belong on the 2024 form?
Report qualified community college property taxes paid during calendar year 2024. The payment date is the date the county treasurer received the payment. The property tax year is the year the taxes were levied, which will be 2023 for most filers.
Where can I find my parcel ID?
Use the Real Estate Tax Statement issued by the county treasurer or DOR’s Look-Up Tool. Some counties call it a “property ID.”
What if I use a fiscal tax year?
If your fiscal year begins in 2024 and ends in 2025, you may complete Part B for qualified community college property taxes paid during the entire 2024 calendar year. Do not include payments made in 2025.
