1120N-ES: 2025 Corporation Estimated Payment Voucher (2024)

Nebraska · Nebraska DOR · Used for tax years 2024

Nebraska Form 1120N-ES provides vouchers for corporations to make 2025 estimated income tax payments. The booklet includes instructions for calculating installments and making payments.

Who files this form

Corporations subject to taxation under the Internal Revenue Code must make estimated payments if their Nebraska income tax liability is reasonably expected to exceed allowable credits by $400 or more. This includes S corporations that elect to be subject to Nebraska income tax.

S corporations that do not make that election may pay voluntarily. Their payments are treated as income tax withholding for shareholders.

Distributors and operators of cash devices must also make quarterly income tax payments. Those that are corporations may use Form 1120N-ES.

When it's due

Tax year note: The supplied worksheet and vouchers are labeled 2025, with a July 2024 revision date. They describe 2025 estimated payments, not 2024 estimated payments.

  • 2025 estimated income tax: Installments are due by the 15th day of the 4th, 6th, 9th, and 12th months of the tax year. You may pay in full with the first installment or in equal installments on each due date.
  • Cash-device payments: The 2025 booklet lists January 1, April 1, June 1, and October 1 of each year as quarterly due dates. It states that this requirement became effective July 19, 2024.
  • Refund application for overpaid estimated tax: For the 2025 tax year, Form 4466N must be filed on or before the 15th day of the third month after the tax year ends, and before the corporation files its tax return.

What you'll need

Have these items and details ready:

  • The 2025 Nebraska Corporation Estimated Income Tax Worksheet, including estimated federal taxable income, Nebraska taxable income, and credits.
  • The corporation's legal name, any doing-business-as name, mailing address, Nebraska ID number, federal ID number, and taxable year ending.
  • The corporation type and payment type requested on the voucher.
  • Your 2024 Form 1120N or Form 1120-SN if you elected to apply an overpayment to 2025 estimated tax.
  • Records of earlier 2025 payments and credits if you are using the Amended Computation Schedule.
  • Bank account and payment information for electronic bank payments, or a check or money order for a mailed payment.

Keep the worksheet for your records. Do not file it.

How to file

Complete the 2025 worksheet and the appropriate payment voucher. On the voucher, subtract any eligible prior-year overpayment applied to that installment from the installment amount to find the payment amount.

Electronic payment options include:

  • Nebraska e-pay, available through revenue.nebraska.gov.
  • Electronic Funds Withdrawal, with payment information provided in an electronically filed return.
  • ACH Credit through an electronic file created by you or your bank.
  • Nebraska Tele-pay at 800-232-0057.
  • Credit card payment at acipayonline.com or 800-272-9829. A convenience fee applies. Phone payments require Nebraska Jurisdiction Code 3700.

Corporations with a Department of Revenue electronic payment mandate must pay electronically. Do not mail a voucher when paying electronically.

By mail: If you are not using an electronic payment option, include the voucher and a check or money order payable to the Nebraska Department of Revenue. Mail them to:

Common mistakes

  • Mailing the worksheet: Retain it for your records. Do not file it.
  • Mailing a voucher after paying electronically: The vouchers specifically say not to mail them when paying electronically.
  • Reusing an overpayment credit: Do not apply an amount already used for a previous installment.
  • Leaving an earlier underpayment uncorrected: If you miss a payment or make a mistake that causes an underpayment, make an immediate catchup payment with your next installment.
  • Assuming no payments will be needed later: Even if no payment is required on the first installment date, payments may become required later as estimated tax changes.
  • Overlooking Form 2220N: Each corporation with an estimated-tax underpayment must file it with Form 1120N or Form 1120-SN. An underpayment penalty may apply unless a listed penalty-avoidance method is met.

Questions people ask

What estimated income tax rate does the 2025 worksheet use?

It uses 5.20% of all Nebraska taxable income for corporate taxpayers and S corporations electing to be subject to tax.

Can a 2024 overpayment reduce my 2025 installments?

Yes. If the corporation had an overpayment on its 2024 Form 1120N or Form 1120-SN and elected to apply it to 2025 estimated tax, all or part may be applied to an installment.

What if my estimated tax changes during the year?

A substantial change may require an amended estimate. Use the Amended Computation Schedule and enter the amended amounts on the next payment voucher.

Can the corporation request a refund of overpaid estimated tax?

Yes, if the overpayment is both at least 10% of its expected income tax liability and at least $500. Apply using Form 4466N within the deadline described above.
