4909: Amended CIT Annual Return for Financial Institutions (2024)
Michigan · Michigan Treasury · Used for tax years 2024
Michigan Form 4909 is the 2024 amended Corporate Income Tax return for financial institutions. It reports original and corrected figures for franchise tax, payments, tax due, and any refund or credit forward.
Who files this form
Financial institutions use Form 4909 to amend a Michigan Corporate Income Tax (CIT) return. This version applies to tax year 2024. Use the amended return for the tax year and taxpayer type you are correcting.
An amended return is required if changes to a federal income tax return affect the CIT tax base.
Standard taxpayers use Form 4892 instead. Insurance companies use Form 4906.
What you'll need
- All schedules and attachments filed with the original return, even if you are not changing them.
- A separate sheet explaining why you are amending the return.
- The instructions for the CIT Annual Return for Financial Institutions, Form 4908, which apply unless the amended-return instructions say otherwise.
- Original or most recently amended figures and corrected figures for the entries requested on Form 4909.
- Payment and overpayment information from the original return and any previous amended returns for the same tax year.
- Form 4910 if filing a Michigan Unitary Business Group (UBG) return.
Do not include a copy of the original return with the amended return.
How to file

- Select the two-digit reason code for amending on page 1 and attach a separate explanation.
- Enter the taxpayer FEIN at the top of page 2. Complete the taxpayer certification and signature fields.

- Enclosing a copy of the original return. The instructions say not to include it.
- Omitting the separate explanation of the reason for amending.
- Entering only corrected figures. Financial institutions must provide both original and amended figures as directed.
- Forgetting the taxpayer FEIN on the succeeding page.
- Stapling the check to the return.

What counts as an overpayment received on line 31?
Include refunds received plus credits forward created on the original return and all previous returns.
