File a separate Schedule E-3 for each individual entity.
What you'll need
Have your name and Social Security number, plus the entity’s name and federal identification number, ready.
Depending on the income you are reporting, the form calls for information from:
- U.S. Schedule K-1: Estate and trust income and deductions or losses.
- Massachusetts K-1 issued by the entity: The amount of the 90% refundable PTE Excise Credit claimed.
- Form 2: Estate or non-grantor type income taxed on that form, if included on line 7.
- U.S. Schedule Q: REMIC amounts from lines 2c, 1b, and 3b.
- U.S. Form 4835: Net farm rental income or loss.
Enclose a statement for adjustments to 5.0% income reported on line 11.
Common mistakes
- Do not combine multiple entities on one Schedule E-3. The form requires a separate schedule for each entity.
- Select only one entity type: estate/trust, REMIC, or farm.
- Enter deductions or losses on lines 1 and 3 as positive amounts. Enter losses as negative amounts on lines 7, 9, 13, 15, 17, and 18.
- Do not enter an amount below zero on line 14 for REMIC excess inclusion.
- Remember to enclose a statement for adjustments reported on line 11.
