Questions people ask

Should I use whole dollars?

Yes. The form directs you to use the whole dollar method when computing the excise.

How is the excise due determined?

The form adds 5% of gross income from all sources in 2025 to $10 per $1,000 of the property value reported on line 2a. It then compares that total on line 3 with the minimum excise on line 7. Enter whichever is larger on line 8.

What if the federal government changed my taxable income for a prior year?

If the change has not yet been reported to Massachusetts, fill in the indicator on page 1, item 6, and file an amended return for each year not reported.

Can I make a contribution for wildlife conservation?

Yes. Line 9 allows a voluntary contribution for endangered wildlife conservation. Add it to the excise due on line 10.
