Maryland · Comptroller of Maryland · Used for tax years 2024
Maryland Form 502R reports retirement income by source for you and your spouse and is attached to Form 502. It also reports Social Security and Railroad Retirement benefits, certain retirement income subtractions, and pension exclusions claimed on your Maryland return.
Who files this form
Complete Form 502R if you or your spouse were required to file a 2024 Maryland Form 502 and any of these apply:
- You reported pension, annuity, or IRA income on federal Form 1040, lines 4b or 5b.
- You received Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits, Tier I or Tier II, during the tax year, whether taxable or not.
- You claimed a pension exclusion on Form 502, line 10a or 10b.

Common mistakes
- Putting Social Security or Railroad Retirement benefits in Part 4. Report those benefits on line 9 in Part 5 instead.
- Reporting only taxable benefits in Part 5. Enter the gross Social Security and Railroad Retirement benefits received during the tax year.
- Putting excluded retirement sources on Part 4, line 1. Do not include traditional, Roth, SIMPLE, or rollover IRAs, SEPs, Keogh plans, ineligible deferred compensation plans, or foreign retirement income on that line. Use the appropriate source lines.
- Leaving out qualifying disability retirement income. Include taxable disability retirement pension or annuity income reported on Form 1099R and treated as federal wages before minimum retirement age on Part 4, line 1.
- Using different identifying information. Names and Social Security numbers must match Form 502.
