Common mistakes
- Using the wrong version: Do not use this form for tax years ending before December 31, 2024.
- Completing Step 3 when it does not apply: If Line 3 income is derived inside Illinois only, or the organization is an Illinois resident trust, check Box A above Step 3, leave Lines 4 through 11 blank, and carry Line 3 to Line 12.
- Leaving required allocation lines blank: If any portion of Line 3 is derived outside Illinois, check Box B above Step 3 and complete all Step 3 lines. Do not leave Lines 6 through 8 blank.
- Using incorrect number formats: Use whole dollars where indicated. Sales on Lines 6 and 7 cannot be negative. Round the Line 8 apportionment factor to six decimal places.
- Entering negative net tax: Enter zero on Lines 17 and 23 if the subtraction produces a negative amount.
- Omitting required information: The form warns that failure to provide required information could result in a penalty.
Questions people ask
What must I include for a federal change?
Check the federal change box, indicate whether the change is partially agreed or finalized, enter the finalization date, and attach your federal finalization document.
What replacement tax rate does the form use?
Line 13 multiplies Line 12 by 2.5% for corporations or 1.5% for trusts.
Can I apply an overpayment forward instead of receiving it all as a refund?
Line 36 lets you enter the portion of the Line 35 overpayment to credit forward. Line 37 subtracts that amount from Line 35 to determine the refund. If the carryforward goes to a different FEIN, check the box and attach a detailed statement.
Will additional penalty and interest be included in a bill?
The form states that you will be sent a bill for any additional penalty and interest.
