What you'll need

Include these with your 2025 Idaho Form 65:

  • A complete copy of federal Form 1065, including all federal Schedule K-1s.

Depending on the entries on your return, also include:

  • Form 42 if the partnership has multistate or multinational operations.
  • Supporting schedules for additions, subtractions, allocated income, and related expenses where required.
  • A separate federal Form 4562 or detailed Idaho depreciation computation when the bonus depreciation instructions require it.

Common mistakes

  • Leaving questions unanswered. The instructions say to answer each question in the Questions 1–10 section. Incomplete returns delay processing, and unanswered questions are treated as “no.”
  • Including a dash in the EIN. Enter the EIN without the dash.
  • Completing lines that don't apply. Don't complete lines 38–42 if the income on lines 36 and 37 is distributed to partners and reported on a return other than a composite or ABE return.
  • Claiming all partnership credits on a composite return. For lines 43–45, don't enter the total partnership credit if the partnership isn't paying tax for all partners.
  • Reporting use tax twice. If you have an Idaho sales or use tax account, report the purchases on those returns, not on Form 65, line 51.
  • Treating the scholarship donation as reversible. A donation on line 54 can't be changed or refunded later.

Questions people ask

Can I use Form 65 to amend a return?

Yes. Check the amended return box and enter the reason code: 1 for a federal audit, 2 for a federal amended return, or 3 for another reason. For code 3, include an explanation. Complete the entire form with corrected amounts and complete lines 67–70.

How should I round amounts?

Round to the nearest whole dollar. Round down amounts under 50 cents and round up amounts of 50 cents or more.

What is the difference between a composite return and an affected business entity return?

A composite return is one return filed by an entity for its eligible owners. An affected business entity, or ABE, is a partnership that elects to be taxed at the entity level.

Can I apply my overpayment to 2026 instead of receiving a refund?

Yes. On an original return, enter the amount you want refunded on line 66. The difference between your line 65 overpayment and the refund you request is applied to your 2026 tax and won't be refunded. Refunds of less than $1 aren't issued.
