Who files this form

Composite filers may use Form IT-CR UET to check whether enough income tax was paid throughout the year through withholding or estimated tax installments. The form helps determine whether an underpayment penalty applies or an exception avoids it.

The form is for tax years 2025 and later and says to attach it to Form IT-CR. The text does not state that every composite filer must complete it.

When it's due

Estimated tax payment schedule for tax year 2025

For calendar-year taxpayers required to file Form CR-ES, the instructions generally require estimated tax filing by April 15 and payment in four installments. The schedule depends on when the requirements are first met:

| Requirements first met | Payment due date | Maximum installments |

| --- | --- | --- |

| January 1 through March 31 | April 15 | 4 |

| April 1 through May 31 | June 15 | 3 |

| June 1 through August 31 | September 15 | 2 |

| On or after September 1 | January 15 | 1 |

The chart does not print a calendar year beside these due dates. If a date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, use the next regular workday.

Fiscal-year taxpayers should contact the Department at 1-877-423-6711 for information about the underpayment penalty.

What you'll need

Have these forms and records available:

  • Form IT-CR, including the tax on Line 1 and credits on Schedule 1, Lines 2 and 7e.
  • The immediately preceding year's tax return. To use its tax amount on Line 4, that return must cover a 12-month period.
  • Records of estimated tax payments, payment dates, and tax withheld.
  • Your entity name and identification number.

If claiming an exception, you may also need:

  • For Exception 1, individual computations for each partner, shareholder, or member, using the exceptions on Form 500-UET for individual and fiduciary partners and Form 600-UET for all other partners.
  • For Exception 2, entity income records for the applicable periods and, if IT-CR option 2 was used, Georgia-apportioned deductions and exemptions for all individuals included in that option.

If you made more than one payment for an installment, attach a separate computation for each payment.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting the attachment: The form says to attach IT-CR UET to Form IT-CR.
  • Using a prior-year return that does not cover 12 months: Line 4 requires a 12-month return.
  • Allocating withholding unevenly: Lines 9 and 13 say withholding is treated as paid equally for each quarter.
  • Missing the weekend or holiday rule: Use the next regular workday when a listed due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday.
  • Omitting separate payment calculations: If an installment had more than one payment, attach a separate computation for each payment.

Questions people ask

What penalty rate does the form use?

The form uses 9 percent a year on the underpaid amount, based on the number of days shown on Line 18.

Can an exception eliminate the penalty?

Yes. You are not liable for a penalty for a period if the current-year payments shown on Line 13 equal or exceed the amount calculated for that period under an applicable exception.

What is the annualized income exception?

Exception 2 applies if current-year tax payments equal or exceed 70 percent of the tax on annualized taxable income for the applicable period. The calculation uses income from the start of the tax year through the month before the installment is due.

How do I apply an earlier installment's overpayment?

For Line 10, subtract the total of Line 8 in previous columns from the total of Line 9 in previous columns. Apply any excess as a credit against the installment. If there is no excess, enter zero.
