Common mistakes
- Applying credits to net worth tax: Schedule 11 credits may offset income tax liability only, not net worth tax liability.
- Missing extension documentation: The form says no filing extension will be allowed unless a copy of the federal extension request or Form IT-303 is attached.
- Rounding ratios: Schedules 2 and 9 require ratios computed to six decimal places without rounding. Round dollar amounts where directed.
- Selecting multiple loss types: Schedule 10 says to select only one current-year loss type.
- Overstating a loss deduction: Schedule 10 limits losses from taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2018, applied to the current year to 80% of line 2.
- Combining credit codes: Complete a separate Schedule 11 for each credit code.
- Carrying credits forward without adjustments: Before using Schedule 11’s potential carryover next year, reduce it for amounts elected to be applied to withholding, expired carryovers, and amounts subsequently sold.
