Connecticut · Connecticut DRS · Used for tax years 2025

Schedule CT-IT Credit summarizes Connecticut income tax credits for individuals, trusts, and estates for 2025. It reports credits earned, prior-year carryforwards, amounts applied to income tax liability, and applicable carryforward or carryback amounts. It is not used to report

Who files this form

Individuals, trusts, and estates must attach Schedule CT-IT Credit to their Connecticut income tax return whenever they claim current-year tax credits or have carryforward tax credit balances from a prior year.

Attach it to Form CT-1040, CT-1040NR/PY, CT-1040X, or CT-1041, as applicable.

  • Part 2: An individual, trust, or estate that is a member of a pass-through entity or a beneficiary of a trust or estate must complete this part. Report the credits shown on Schedule CT K-1 or Schedule CT-1041 K-1.
  • Part 3: Complete this part if claiming the Angel Investor Tax Credit, whether you are the original holder or the credit was assigned, transferred, or sold to you.

Do not use this schedule to report the pass-through entity tax credit itself. Use Schedule CT-PE for that credit.

What you'll need

Have your applicable Connecticut income tax return and the documents reporting your available credits. Keep copies of the credit documents for your records.

Depending on the credits you report, you may need:

  • Your 2024 Schedule CT-IT Credit: The instructions use Column E amounts from Lines 6 through 9 for the corresponding carryforward entries.
  • Schedule CT K-1 or Schedule CT-1041 K-1: Use these for credits reported by a pass-through entity, trust, or estate. Part 2 also requires the entity's name and Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN).
  • Credit vouchers or certificates: These include vouchers from the Office of Policy and Management, Connecticut Innovations, Inc., the University of Connecticut, or the Connecticut Department of Housing, and the final accredited theater production certificate issued by DECD, as applicable.
  • Worksheet B for Schedule CT-IT Credit: A trust or estate must complete this worksheet if allocating all or part of its credits to beneficiaries. It is in the Form CT-1041 instructions.
  • Schedule CT-1040 REC: Use Line 7 for the Real Estate Conveyance Tax Credit.
  • 2025 Form CT-8801: Complete it before entering the prior-year Connecticut minimum tax credit. Attach it to a paper return.

Additional documentation may be requested to support employer ABLE account or CHET contributions.

Common mistakes

  • Using the wrong year's schedule: Each form is year specific. Attach the correct year's form to avoid processing delays.
  • Reporting the pass-through entity tax credit here: Use Schedule CT-PE instead.
  • Claiming too much credit: Each Column D entry cannot exceed the available credit. Total credits applied cannot exceed Line 1, Column A, your income tax liability.
  • Using staples or the wrong ink: Do not staple the schedule. Complete it in blue or black ink only.
  • Skipping Form CT-8801: Complete it before entering the prior-year minimum tax credit, and attach it if filing a paper return.
  • Calculating a carryforward before a housing credit carryback: If using the Workforce Housing Opportunity Development Tax Credit carryback provision, complete Column F before Column E.
