Common mistakes
- Using the wrong year’s form: The form is year-specific. Use the 2024 version for your 2024 return to avoid processing delays.
- Entering incorrect account details: Review your most recent CHET account statement before completing the schedule. Include the required Fidelity prefix and account number.
- Listing too many accounts: Contributions are limited to three existing CHET accounts. Separate accounts for the same beneficiary need separate entries.
- Contributing more than your overpayment: Your total on Line 4 must be equal to or less than your Connecticut overpayment.
- Assuming you can undo the contribution: Contributions are irrevocable.
- Forgetting the attachment instructions: Attach the schedule to the back of your return without staples, and use blue or black ink.
Questions people ask
Can I contribute to more than one CHET account?
Yes. You can contribute to up to three existing CHET accounts. If the same beneficiary has multiple accounts, enter each account as a separate beneficiary entry.
Can I change my mind after making the contribution?
The form states that contributions are irrevocable.
What happens if a contribution is rejected for deposit?
The rejected contribution will be returned to the Department of Revenue Services (DRS), which will issue you a refund by paper check.
Could my CHET contribution be reduced?
Yes. Your overpayment is applied first to DRS penalties and interest, DRS taxes, debts to other Connecticut state agencies, federal taxes, taxes owed to other states, and amounts you designated for your 2025 Connecticut estimated tax. CHET and designated charitable contributions come after those items. If your CHET contribution is reduced, you will receive an explanation.
