- Using staples or the wrong ink. Do not staple the schedule. Use blue or black ink only.
- Leaving out beneficiaries. Report all resident and nonresident beneficiaries to whom income is distributable, even if the income is not taxable to a nonresident beneficiary.
- Skipping Part 1 because nothing was distributed. Complete it even if there is no distribution to beneficiaries.

Questions people ask
How is the fiduciary adjustment divided?
Generally, it is divided in proportion to each beneficiary’s and the trust or estate’s share of federal distributable net income. Enter those shares in Column 3 and the corresponding percentages in Column 4. Multiply the total adjustment by each percentage to calculate Column 5.
What if federal distributable net income is zero or less?
Each beneficiary’s share is based on that beneficiary’s share of trust or estate income and other amounts properly paid, credited, or required to be distributed during the tax year. Any adjustment not allocable to beneficiaries is allocated to the trust or estate.
How do I calculate the Part 2 percentage?
Divide the number of resident, noncontingent beneficiaries by the total number of resident and nonresident noncontingent beneficiaries. Enter the result as a decimal rounded to four decimal places.
Where does the Part 2 result go?
For a full-year resident inter vivos trust, carry the result to Schedule CT-1041C, Line 11. For a part-year resident inter vivos trust, carry it to Schedule CT-1041FA, Part 1, Line 5.
