CT-PET EXT: Application for Extension of Time to File Connecticut Pass-Through Entity Tax Return (2025)

Connecticut · Connecticut DRS · Used for tax years 2025

Form CT-PET EXT requests a six-month extension to file the 2025 Connecticut Pass-Through Entity Tax Return and furnish Schedule CT K-1 to members. It reports tax liability, payments and credits, and any amount due with the request. It does not extend the time to pay tax.

Who files this form

Partnerships and S corporations use Form CT-PET EXT to request a six-month extension to file Form CT-PET, Connecticut Pass-Through Entity Tax Return. The extension also gives the entity more time to furnish Schedule CT K-1 to its members.

A federal extension does not automatically extend the Connecticut filing deadline. To obtain the Connecticut extension, the pass-through entity must file Form CT-PET EXT and pay the amount shown on Line 3 by the return’s due date.

When it's due

  • 2025 calendar-year extension request: The printed filing deadline is March 15, 2026. If the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, filing by the next business day is considered timely.
  • 2025 calendar-year extended deadline: The form requests an extension to September 15, 2026, to file Form CT-PET and furnish Schedule CT K-1 to members.

This extension does not extend the time to pay tax. Pay the amount due with the extension request by the original return due date.

What you'll need

Have the following information ready to complete the form:

  • The entity’s name, address, type, Federal Employer ID Number (FEIN), and Connecticut Tax Registration Number.
  • The taxable-year dates, if the entity does not use a calendar year.
  • The entity’s 2025 tax liability, which may be estimated.
  • Estimated payments made during the taxable year, any prior-year overpayment applied, and any refundable credit.
  • Whether federal Form 7004 was filed. If it was not, provide a reason for requesting the Connecticut extension.
  • The general partner’s or corporate officer’s signature, title, date, and telephone number, plus paid preparer information if applicable.

How to file

File and pay electronically. Do not mail a paper return to DRS.

  1. Enter the 2025 tax liability on Line 1. You may estimate it. If no tax is due, enter “0.”
  2. Enter estimated payments, the prior-year overpayment applied, and any refundable credit on Line 2.
  3. Subtract Line 2 from Line 1 and enter the result on Line 3. If the result is less than zero, enter “0.”
  4. To file through myconneCT, go to portal.ct.gov/DRS-myconneCT. Log in, find the tax account on the Summary screen, select File an Extension, choose a payment method, and file Form CT-PET EXT.

If you file through myconneCT, the instructions require electronic payment at that time. Direct Payment allows withdrawal from a checking or savings account on a selected date up to the due date. Credit and comparable debit cards are also accepted, with a convenience fee. Card payments are effective on the date charged.

Keep the transaction confirmation number and a copy of the return for your records.

Common mistakes

  • Using the wrong year’s form: Submit the correct year-specific form to avoid processing delays.
  • Leaving Line 1 blank: An amount is required, even when it is zero.
  • Assuming a federal extension is enough: It does not automatically extend the Connecticut filing date.
  • Treating the filing extension as a payment extension: Unpaid tax may be subject to interest and penalties.
  • Mailing a paper return or paying by check: The form and payment must be submitted electronically. If you initiate payment through your bank’s online system, verify that the bank sends an electronic funds transfer (EFT), not a check. Penalties apply for failing to pay electronically.
