Questions people ask

What happens if my rebate is more than my tax liability?

The excess is treated as an overpayment and refunded without interest.

How is the basic rebate calculated?

A qualified business may receive a rebate equal to 50% of the income tax that would be paid on the average wage for new full-time equivalents (FTEs) created or maintained in an opportunity zone or distressed municipality. For new FTEs created or maintained elsewhere, the rate is 25%.

How soon can a business receive a rebate, and how long can it last?

A rebate will not be granted until at least 24 months after DECD approves the business’s application. Rebates may be granted for no more than seven successive calendar years.
