DR 0990: Colorado Exempt Entity Income Tax Credit Return (2025)
Colorado · Colorado DOR · Used for tax years 2025
DR 0990 is the 2025 Colorado Exempt Entity Income Tax Credit Return. It reports refundable or transferable Colorado tax credits claimed by qualifying exempt entities and can also be used to amend a previously filed return.
Who files this form
You must file the 2025 DR 0990 if all three apply:
- You are a Colorado governmental entity, a tribal government, or an organization granted tax-exempt status by the IRS.
- You have no unrelated business taxable income from Colorado sources or business activity in Colorado.
- You are claiming a refundable or transferable Colorado tax credit available to your type of entity.
If you file federal Form 990-T to report unrelated business taxable income from Colorado sources or business activity in Colorado, file DR 0112 instead.
If you transferred income tax credits for this tax year, the form also requires you to file this return with the applicable transfer schedules.
When it's due
For tax year 2025, the form gives these deadlines:
- Return and payment: The fifteenth day of the fourth month after the taxable year closes. The form lists April 15 for calendar-year filers.
- Filing extension: An automatic six-month extension, listed as October 15 for calendar-year filers.
The extension is for filing only. There is no extension to pay.
If a due date or extension date falls on a weekend or legal holiday, filing or payment is due the next business day.
What you'll need
Have the entity’s legal name, trade name if applicable, eight-digit Colorado Account Number, FEIN, mailing address, phone number, and tax-exemption information ready. Include fiscal-year beginning and ending dates if the entity does not use a calendar year.

Common mistakes
- Using the wrong return: If you report Colorado-related unrelated business taxable income on federal Form 990-T, use DR 0112 instead.
- Treating the filing extension as a payment extension: No extension is available for payment.
- Claiming an assigned vehicle credit: You cannot claim the Innovative Motor Vehicle or Innovative Truck Credit if you assigned it to a financing entity or motor vehicle dealer.
- Including real estate in the Business Personal Property Credit: Real property is not eligible.
- Omitting required attachments: Submit the supporting forms, schedules, and documents requested for your credits. Do not attach DR 1323 or DR 1322.
- Leaving unchanged items out of an amended return: Complete every field and resubmit all schedules and supporting documents, even if unchanged.
- Using unverified bank details: Contact your financial institution to confirm the direct-deposit information and that it will accept the deposit.
Questions people ask
How do I correct a previously filed return?
Complete a new DR 0990 and mark the “Amended Return” box. Enter all fields and submit all schedules and supporting documents, including those that have not changed.
Can I claim a credit passed through by a partnership or S corporation?
Obtain DR 0106K from the partnership or S corporation, enter the credit on DR 0990, and attach a copy. The partnership or S corporation must also file DR 0106K with its return. The Department will review that return to verify your claim.
How will I receive my refund?
If you have a refund on line 11, you may authorize direct deposit into your bank account. Otherwise, a refund check will be mailed to the address on the return.
Can my tax preparer discuss the return with the Department?
Yes. Mark “Yes” in the third-party preparer authorization area. The designee may ask about processing and refund status, request related notices, bills, or transcripts, and respond to questions about calculations and supporting documents. The designee cannot sign forms or protests, request other account changes, receive your refund, or otherwise represent you. The authorization expires four years after the return is signed.
