Questions people ask
How do I find my tax in the table?
Find the row containing your taxable income from Form 40NR, line 18. Your income must be at least the row’s lower amount but less than its upper amount. Read across to the column for your filing status.
Which filing statuses share a tax column?
Single, married filing separately, and head of family share one column. Married filing jointly has a separate column.
Where do I enter the tax amount?
Enter the amount on line 19 of Form 40NR. In the printed example, a married couple filing jointly has taxable income of $23,360. They use the row for at least $23,300 but less than $23,400 and enter $1,088 on line 19.
What if my taxable income is over $100,000?
Use the worksheet printed after the table. Subtract $100,000 from your taxable income and multiply the difference by .05. Then add $4,958 if you are single, married filing separately, or head of family. Add $4,918 if you are married filing jointly. The result is your tax.
