Questions people ask
How do I find my tax in the table?
Find the income row that includes your taxable income from Form 40NR, line 18. Your income must be at least the first amount but less than the second amount. Then read across to the column for your filing status.
Which filing statuses use the same column?
Single, married filing separately, and head of family use the same tax column. Married filing jointly uses a separate column.
Where do I enter the tax amount?
Enter the amount on line 19 of Form 40NR. In the printed example, a married couple filing jointly with taxable income of $23,360 finds a tax of $1,088 and enters it on line 19.
What if my taxable income is over $100,000?
Use the worksheet for your filing status. Subtract $100,000 from taxable income and multiply the difference by .05. Then add $4,958 if you are single, married filing separately, or head of family. If you are married filing jointly, add $4,918 instead. The result is your tax.
