Questions people ask

How do I find my tax in the table?

Find the row where your taxable income from Form 40, line 16, is at least the first amount but less than the second amount. Then read across to the column for your filing status.

Which filing statuses use the same column?

Single, married filing separately, and head of family use one column. Married filing jointly uses the other column.

Where do I enter the tax amount?

Enter the amount from the table on line 17 of Form 40. In the printed example, a married couple filing jointly with taxable income of $23,360 enters $1,088.

What if my taxable income is over $100,000?

Use the worksheet printed after the table. Subtract $100,000 from your taxable income and multiply the difference by .05. Then add $4,958 if you are single, married filing separately, or head of family. Add $4,918 if you are married filing jointly.
