20C: Alabama Corporation Income Tax Return (2024)
Alabama · Alabama DOR · Used for tax years 2024
Form 20C is Alabama’s Corporation Income Tax Return for 2024. It reports federal taxable income adjusted to Alabama rules, Alabama taxable income, tax, credits, payments, and the amount due or refund.
What you'll need
- A copy of the federal return. Form 20C warns that the Alabama return is incomplete without it.
- Income, deduction, payment, and credit information for the entries on the return and applicable schedules. The form references Schedule BC for credits and Schedule CP-B for composite payments and electing pass-through entity credits.
- Alabama net operating loss records, if applicable. Schedule B asks for loss years, loss amounts, amounts used in prior years and this year, and remaining unused losses.
- Beginning- and end-of-year balance sheet information. Attach statements for the Schedule F entries marked “attach statement.”
- Prior written approval if using separate accounting under filing status 4. The approval must be attached.
- Consolidated federal group information, if applicable. Schedule E uses the company’s proforma Form 1120 and consolidated federal income and tax figures.

Common mistakes
- Leaving out the federal return. The form says the return will be considered incomplete without a copy.
- Checking multiple federal form boxes. Check only one box identifying the form filed for federal purposes.
- Using Schedule D-2 when Alabama sales exceed $100,000. The schedule explicitly says not to use it in that case.
- Entering negative amounts on Schedule D-1. Its heading requires positive values.
- Using separate accounting without attaching approval. Filing status 4 requires prior written approval and says it must be attached.
- Including page 5 in the submission. The form specifically says not to send that page with Form 20C or Form BIT-V.
